Salt Lake County is vigilant in its efforts to prevent homelessness - both temporary and chronic. It funds several organizations that aid in these efforts, as well as some of the local homeless shelters.
Those at risk of becoming homeless can contact:
- Salt Lake Community Action Program
- The Housing Authority of the County of Salt Lake
- National Alliance for the Mentally Ill
- Lifestart Village
- Utah Legal Services
- Family Promise
- The Salvation Army
The AmeriCorps program also places its members with agencies which work with the homeless.
Clients served by some Salt Lake County agencies also refer people for housing through the HARP program.
Current, local homelessness statistics are available through the Point In Time Study, which was done by the Continuum of Care.
Overall plans to address homelessness are detailed in Salt Lake County's 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness. In 2009, the goals and strategies were updated to adapt to the current environment.
